Jonathan Wall represents businesses and individuals in all Maryland State and Federal trial and appeals courts. Jonathan obtained a B.A. in English, cum laude, from Boston University, an M.F.A. from the Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he was the Executive Editor of the University of Baltimore Intellectual Property Law Review.
Jonathan’s intellectual property practice includes a diverse group of artists, innovators and designers, from multi-national engineering firms to mega-yacht designers and manufacturers, from creative writers to international writers associations, from regional travel magazine publishers to local fashion accessory manufacturers, from art studios and galleries to software developers and designers, from hotel and travel professionals to chefs and restaurateurs. Jonathan’s intellectual property practice focuses on corporate governance, US and international trademark prosecution and enforcement of rights, copyright prosecution and enforcement of rights (including boat hull design protection), trademark and copyright litigation, as well as technology transfer and licensing.
Jonathan provides estate and trust planning services for individuals with respect to a wide variety of planning needs and financial backgrounds, including but not limited to the needs of artists and innovators seeking to protect and manage diverse portfolios of intellectual property rights, advising clients with respect to rights transfers, royalty disputes, infringement actions, and management vehicles such as family corporations and literary trusts. Jonathan has extensive litigation and appellate experience with respect to trusts, estates, custodianships and guardianships, representing fiduciaries, beneficiaries and interested partis in numerous matters involving UTMA, caveat, orders for issues, appeals, court-authorized special needs trusts, breach of fiduciary duty, removal, conversion, fraud, ademption, will construction, bad faith, estoppel and other topics.
Jonathan represents and advises asset-based lenders, financial institutions holding secured and unsecured claims, equipment lessors, landlords, manufacturers, lienholders, taxing authorities and purchasers of distressed loans or assets in bankruptcy or bankruptcy-related cases, frequently involving the extension and violations of the automatic stay, complex workout and Chapter 11 plan negotiations, borrower adversary complaints, claims litigation, asset protection and restraining orders, contested plan confirmations, fraudulent conveyance claims, preference actions and many other forms of contested matters in bankruptcy cases. In addition to creditor representation, Jonathan has extensive experience representing borrowers, guarantors and other debtors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy proceedings, restructurings and litigation matters.
Jonathan represents and advises for-profit, non-profit and quasi-governmental entities in matters involving entity structuring, negotiation of partnership and membership agreements, governance, leasing, licensing, land use, acquisitions, merger and contracting, serving as general counsel to numerous business concerns.
Jonathan provides experienced litigation counsel in complex civil matters, including but not limited to defamation, negligence, trademark and copyrights, breach of contract, contracts, civil rights, medical and legal malpractice, trusts and estates, malicious prosecution, shareholder/partner litigation, first amendment and constitutional law, police brutality, fraud, environmental law, leasing, real estate, construction defects, lead paint and mold, employer/employee wage and other disputes, and personal injury matters.
Jonathan contributes a substantial amount of his time providing pro bono or reduced fee services to particularly needy or charitable clients, including churches, synagogues, charities and victims of fraud and abuse. He is a member of the Board of Partnership Development Group Rehabilitation Services, Inc., a non-profit facilitating the return to employment for people with disabilities. Jonathan is a panel attorney for the Maryland Lawyers for the Arts and has been an Annapolis resident since 1988.
